Nexon has officially announced that it will shut down Dynasty Warriors M on February 20, 2025. This decision will affect players globally, including those in Japan, marking the end of the mobile game’s journey after just over a year of operation.
Dynasty Warriors M was Nexon’s second mobile adaptation of Koei Tecmo’s popular Dynasty Warriors hack-and-slash franchise. While the first attempt, Dynasty Warriors Unleashed, was inspired by Dynasty Warriors 8, Dynasty Warriors M drew its core gameplay and design from Dynasty Warriors 9.
The game was first revealed in late October 2023 and quickly launched worldwide on November 22, 2023. Despite initial excitement, its lifespan will end up being significantly shorter than its predecessor. Dynasty Warriors Unleashed operated globally for three years (2017-2020) and extended its service in Japan until 2022.
The shutdown of Dynasty Warriors M is not an isolated case in the franchise’s mobile game history. In July 2024, another mobile adaptation, Dynasty Warriors Overlords, based on Dynasty Warriors 7, was also discontinued.
As of the end of 2024, Koei Tecmo’s self-developed Dynasty Warriors 9 mobile entry, launched exclusively in Japan in March 2021, will remain the only active mobile game in the series. Akihiro Suzuki, the renowned producer of the Dynasty Warriors series, continues to oversee this project. Meanwhile, Tomohiko Sho is leading the production of the upcoming console title, Dynasty Warriors Origins, which is set to release on January 17, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
Players of Dynasty Warriors M can continue to access the game on both Android and iOS devices until its service officially ends in February 2025. Nexon has not yet shared specific details about compensation or in-game refunds for current players, but updates are expected as the shutdown date approaches.
