Detroit: Become Human Surpasses 10 Million Copies Sold After Six Years

The sci-fi thriller Detroit: Become Human has reached an impressive milestone, selling over 10 million copies worldwide six years after its release.

Quantic Dream CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière shared the exciting news on X, expressing his gratitude to the fans with a heartfelt tweet::

“The entire Quantic_Dream team is joining me to proudly announce that Detroit_Game has now sold in excess of 10 million (paid) units on PlayStation and PC. We are extremely grateful to each and everyone out there who played the game. You mean the world to us and we couldn’t have achieved this incredible milestone without every single one of you!”

Detroit: Become Human is a sci-fi thriller that first launched on PS4 before arriving on PC in December 2019. It follows the studio’s previous interactive titles Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. The game is inspired by Quantic Dream’s 2012 tech demo Kara, which earned recognition at the LA Shorts Fest.

The game saw early success, selling 1 million units in just two weeks after its initial release. By August 2020, it had surpassed 5 million units sold across all platforms, continuing its momentum to eventually double that number over the following years.

The game received generally favorable reviews, earning a 78 score on Metacritic and overwhelmingly positive feedback on Steam, with over 122,000 reviews giving it a 93.85% positive rating. It also won “Best of E3” at GameSpot’s 2017 awards.

In 2022, Detroit: Become Human expanded its universe with a spin-off manga titled Detroit: Become Human Tokyo Stories. This manga follows an android idol named Reina in Japan during the events of the game, adding new layers to the Detroit world.

Despite its success, there has been no news of a sequel, remaster, or PS5-native version of the game. On PS5, Detroit: Become Human runs through backward compatibility using the PS4 Pro version.

As for Quantic Dream, the studio is currently working on a new project called Star Wars Eclipse. This action-adventure game is set in the High Republic era of the Star Wars universe.
