Israeli mobile game developer Moon Active, known for its hit game Coin Master, has reportedly laid off significant staff as part of an “organizational restructuring.” According to local media CTech and PG.biz, the layoffs affected staff in Israel and other offices worldwide, including locations in Belarus, Kyiv, Lithuania, and Romania. Moon Active employs around 2,500 people globally.

This news comes despite the company reporting record-breaking revenue of over $2 billion in 2024. However, like many gaming companies, Moon Active seems to be adapting to industry-wide trends of restructuring. This year, several developers, including Huuuge Games, Phoenix Labs, and Ubisoft, have announced similar workforce reductions to realign their strategies.

Coin Master, Moon Active’s flagship game has generated over $6 billion in total earnings and amassing over 350 million downloads, according to Sensor Tower. The company’s second-most successful title, Travel Town – Merge Adventure, also performed strongly in 2024, generating nearly $320 million in player spending and reaching close to $500 million in lifetime revenue across 56 million downloads, based on AppMagic data.

In a statement, Moon Active explained that the restructuring aligns its operations with long-term strategic goals following several mergers and acquisitions. Among these deals was the acquisition of Zen Match from Good Job Games for up to $150 million.

While layoffs are often challenging, Moon Active emphasized its significant growth in recent years, ending 2024 with its highest revenue yet.
