Monster Hunter Wilds has become the best-selling game in the United States for February 2025, knocking Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 from the top position after four months. The game has not only dominated February sales but has also become the best-selling title of 2025 so far.
According to the latest data from Circana, February was an exciting month for new game releases, with four of the top five best-selling games being brand new titles. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II secured the second position, while Civilization VII and PGA Tour 2K25 took third and fourth places respectively. NBA 2K25 rounded out the top five, falling from its previous second-place position.
Monster Hunter Wilds has made an impressive impact on the gaming market. Mat Piscatella, an executive director and analyst at Circana, reported that the launch month dollar sales for Monster Hunter Wilds more than doubled what Monster Hunter Rise achieved during its March 2021 debut. The game performed strongly across all platforms, ranking as the best-selling title on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam ecosystems, with Steam accounting for over half of the game’s total sales.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II also showed remarkable growth compared to its predecessor. As per Circana’s data, the sequel generated five times more launch month dollar sales than the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance did during its February 2018 release.
While new releases dominated the charts, previously popular titles continued to slip. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 fell to sixth place, and EA Sports College Football 25 dropped out of the top 10 for the first time, landing at 16th position compared to its previous seventh place. Interestingly, Elden Ring was the only game to maintain its position from the previous month, staying at 18th place.

Hardware sales continue to struggle, with video game hardware sales falling 25% year-over-year for February 2025. The drop from $341 million to $256 million represents the lowest February total for video game hardware sales since February 2020. Among consoles, PlayStation 5 was the best-selling in terms of both units sold and dollar amount, with Xbox Series systems coming in second in both categories.
The accessory market also experienced a decline, with an 8% drop from $248 million to $228 million year-over-year. After two months of sales data, accessory spending is 18% behind 2024’s pace, with controller spending falling 17% and headset spending dropping by 25%.
Industry experts believe that hardware sales might get a boost later this year when Nintendo releases its highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 system in the coming months.
