China Approves 110 Games in February, Including Plants vs. Zombies 3

China has approved 110 video games in February, including three foreign titles such as EA’s Plants vs. Zombies 3.

According to the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA), the regulatory body responsible for game approvals, the list includes popular domestic titles like NetEase’s Lingshou Adventures and the foreign shooter game Door Kickers: Action Squad.

This follows a trend of over 100 monthly approvals since last year, with only slight dips in April and May, which saw 95 and 96 approvals, respectively.

The approval of Plants vs. Zombies 3 is particularly noteworthy, as EA announced in October that the game is undergoing a “major overhaul.” Servers for the soft launch were shut down in November, and the company has not yet provided a timeline for its official release.

In 2024, China approved a total of 1,306 domestic games and 110 foreign titles, marking an increase from 2023’s 977 local and 98 imported games. The numbers are also significantly higher than in 2022, when only 468 domestic and 44 foreign games were approved.

In January 2025, China approved a total of 136 games, including Tencent’s Honor of Kings: World, an open-world action RPG spin-off of the popular Honor of Kings.
