Capcom Spotlight: Monster Hunter Wilds Beta, Onimusha Series, New Fighting Collection and More Unveiled

At a recent Capcom Spotlight and Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase, the developer revealed an array of exciting updates for fans. The presentations featured new developments across various franchises, including updates on the two games of Onimusha series and insights into the next Capcom Fighting Collection.

Monster Hunter Wilds Takes Center Stage

The highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds is set to launch on February 28, with Capcom providing new details. The showcase revealed a stunning new location called Iceshard Cliffs, a frozen landscape teeming with unique monsters. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto highlighted the addition of the Hirabami, a Leviathan-type monster with sail-like membranes that allows aerial attacks.

The game will feature a second Open Beta Test, offering players a chance to experience the game’s mechanics before its full release. Notably, hunters will be able to challenge Arkveld, the game’s flagship monster, during this beta. The Open Beta Test will run from February 6-9 and February 13-16, with cross-platform multiplayer and character data transferability.

Onimusha Franchise Makes a Comeback

Capcom is breathing new life into the beloved Onimusha franchise with two significant announcements. Onimusha: Way of the Sword, set for a 2026 release, promises an immersive samurai action experience. As per the developers, the game will be set in the Edo Period and feature a new protagonist wielding an Oni Gauntlet to battle evil Genma creatures. They aim to authentically recreate Kyoto’s historical locations and deliver the “ultimate sword-fighting action” experience, ensuring the game is challenging yet accessible to action fans of all skill levels.

Additionally, fans of the series can look forward to a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, scheduled for release in 2025. This remaster aims to bring the classic 2002 game to modern platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Fighting Game Enthusiasts Rejoice

Capcom is also catering to fighting game fans with multiple exciting releases. The MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is finally joining Xbox via Xbox One.

Furthermore, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is set to release on May 16, 2025, featuring eight classic fighting games, including:

Street Fighter 6 Adds New Characters

The popular fighting game Street Fighter 6 continues to expand its roster. Mai from Fatal Fury will join the game on February 5, with Elena expected to be the final character in the Year 2 lineup.

Fans can also look forward to the Capcom Cup 11, a major esports event with a $1 million prize pool, scheduled for March 5-9, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan.
