Capcom, a leading name in the gaming industry, has reported a decline in its financial performance for the nine months ending December 31, 2024. However, the company remains optimistic about achieving its yearly financial targets, thanks to the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Wilds in its last quarter.

Financial results for Q3 suggest a 16.3% decrease in net sales compared to the same period last year, bringing the total to ¥88.9 billion ($572.7 million). Operating income also saw a reduction of 35%, settling at ¥31 billion ($199.8 million), while net income decreased by 33.4% to ¥23.1 billion ($148.8 million).

Looking deeper into the gaming sales, Capcom sold 30.53 million game units during this period. While this number might seem lower than last year’s figures, it’s important to remember that last year’s numbers included the successful launch of Street Fighter 6. Interestingly, Capcom’s catalog sales – games released in previous years – actually grew from 26.7 million to 28.61 million units, showing the lasting appeal of their existing titles.

The company’s confidence stems from its upcoming release of Monster Hunter Wilds, scheduled for February 28, 2025. This new entry in Capcom’s flagship series carries high expectations, especially considering that its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, achieved remarkable success with over 25 million copies sold in six years, making it Capcom’s best-selling game ever. Currently, Monster Hunter Wilds is the most wish-listed upcoming game on Steam overtaking the years-long hype Hollow Knight Silksong, Valve’s upcoming multiplayer project Deadlock, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, and Elden Ring Nightreign.

Beyond gaming, Capcom has been diversifying its revenue streams through various entertainment ventures. The company has been actively expanding its intellectual properties into films, television productions, and merchandise, while also maintaining its arcade operations and developing new Pachislo machines.

Looking ahead, Capcom’s financial forecast remains unchanged from its initial May 2024 projections. The company expects to achieve net sales of ¥165 billion ($1.06 billion) and a profit of ¥46 billion ($296.4 million) by the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2025. These targets would represent an improvement over the previous year’s results of ¥43 billion ($279 million).

In related news, the company recently announced two significant projects: a new entry in the Onimusha series – the first main title in twenty years – and a collaboration with Hideki Kamiya’s studio Clovers for an Okami sequel, demonstrating their commitment to reviving beloved franchises.
