In a press release shared on its investor relations website, Capcom expressed its commitment to reviving older intellectual properties (IPs). The company stated, “In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently.” This strategy aims to maximize the value of Capcom’s extensive content library while maintaining a consistent output of high-quality games.

Titles like Onimusha: Way of the Sword and the untitled Okami sequel are expected to set the stage for more classic revivals in the near future.

The Okami sequel marks a significant milestone, especially with the return of series creator Hideki Kamiya, who will lead development at his new studio, Clovers.

Both Okami and Onimusha have been mostly absent from the gaming scene for years, aside from remasters and smaller spin-offs. The last main Okami title was Okamiden on the Nintendo DS in 2010, while Onimusha hasn’t seen a full-scale release since 2006‘s Dawn of Dreams.
