Buckshot Roulette, a tabletop horror game of chance developed by indie creator Mike Klubnika, reached an impressive milestone of 4 million units sold on December 10. In a heartfelt blog post on Steam, Klubnika expressed gratitude to players, stating, “It feels incredibly sentimental to write another one of these posts,” while also thanking the community for “taking part in our dance between life and death.”

Originally debuting on itch.io in December 2023, Buckshot Roulette made its way to Steam on April 4, 2024. The game achieved remarkable success shortly after its Steam launch, selling one million copies within just two weeks. While it remains unclear whether the total sales figures combine itch.io and Steam numbers, key milestones provide insight into its rapid growth:

  • 500,000 copies sold — April 9, 2024
  • 1 million copies (Steam only) — April 17, 2024
  • 2 million copies sold — July 5, 2024

Since its Steam release, Mike Klubnika has remained dedicated to improving and expanding Buckshot Roulette. Notably, the introduction of a multiplayer mode on October 31 significantly boosted player engagement. This update led to a surge in concurrent users (CCU), with the game surpassing 20,000 peak players in early November.

The game’s success isn’t limited to sales alone. Buckshot Roulette has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews across platforms. On Metacritic, it holds an impressive score of 85, while OpenCritic shows a 92% recommendation rate. On Steam, over 76,000 reviews have contributed to a 94% positive rating.

Much of the game’s popularity can be attributed to its strategic depth, often compared to Inscryption. Streamers on Twitch, viral TikTok clips, and content creators on YouTube have all played significant roles in propelling the game to wider audiences.
