BLAST Cancels Mexico CS2 Tournament, Moves to Denmark Due to Logistics Issues

CS2 BLAST RIVALS

BLAST, a major international esports tournament organizer, has canceled its BLAST Premier Rivals Monterrey event that was set to take place in Mexico. The tournament will now be held at BLAST’s studios in Copenhagen, Denmark instead.

The company announced this change on Monday, March 31 through their social media channels, citing “unforeseen logistical challenges” as the reason for the cancellation. BLAST added that while they won’t be in Mexico this time, they hope to return in the future.

This cancellation comes as a significant disappointment, especially since the event was scheduled to begin in late April 2025. According to Dust2.us, fans who had already booked travel and accommodations are now scrambling to cancel reservations and secure refunds.

The Monterrey tournament held special significance as it was meant to be the first tier-one Counter-Strike 2 competition ever hosted in Mexico. The global event featured a substantial $1 million prize pool and was planned to take place at the Escenario GNP Seguros in Pabellón M.

When first announced in January, BLAST had projected that the Monterrey tournament would generate $12.5 million in economic impact and local investment for the region. The event had strong local backing from events company Liga Ace and support from regional government officials.

However, this cancellation represents a setback for Mexico’s growing esports scene, which had been gaining momentum and recognition in the international competitive gaming community. The Monterrey event was viewed as a significant milestone that would have placed the country more prominently on the global esports map.
