Black Myth: Wukong has taken the gaming world by storm, becoming one of the fastest-selling games in history, with 18 million copies sold in just two weeks on Steam. Building on this massive success, the developers at Game Science are now exploring new ways to expand the game’s narrative, offering players even more content and new skins.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Daniel Wu, head of Game Science investor Hero Games, confirmed that the team’s next big project will be a DLC expansion, much like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. He said:
“It won’t take another six years for the next chapter in what’s planned to be a series based on Chinese mythology — though that won’t be a sequel.”
This mean :
- The expansion will likely continue or expand upon the main game’s story
- It may introduce new gameplay elements – characters, weapons, or areas to explore
- It is likely priced between $30-$40. (Erdtree: $40)
The goal is to further monetize the game while boosting its long-term sales.
This news is sure to excite the millions of players who have playing Black Myth: Wukong since its release on August 20 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
The game has been breaking records since day 1, like a concurrent record on Steam, 10 million sales in just three days. According to the latest data from VG Insights, the game has now grossed $850 million in revenue with over 18 million copies sold on Steam alone.
Even after two weeks, Black Myth: Wukong is still going strong in holding its userbase as it continues to draw over a million concurrent players daily. At the time of writing, it ranks fourth on Steam’s most-played games.
As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for the expansion. However, given the game’s meteoric rise, fans can expect more details in the coming months.
