Black Myth: Wukong hits another major milestone. Launched on August 20th on PC and PlayStation 5, the game has now sold an impressive 10 million copies in just three days.

Developer Game Science shared this exciting news on X, expressing their gratitude to players, thanking them for their “support and love.”

This remarkable achievement places Black Myth: Wukong among the fastest-selling video games, surpassing recent hits like Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy.

The game’s success can be attributed to the substantial hype surrounding its release, the positive reviews it got, and the large player base it has in China.

The game’s cultural significance, rooted in the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West,” strongly appeals to Chinese audiences. However, it’s undeniable that Western audiences, who have recently tired of forced diversity in video games, also show considerable appreciation for the game.

What Records Has Black Myth: Wukong Broken?

Beyond its impressive sales figures, Black Myth: Wukong has also shattered several records in the last three days:

  • The game topped Steam’s 24-hour concurrent player count list within hours of its release, breaking the previous record of 2.1 million held by Palworld, making it the top game of 2024.
  • It became the most-played single-player game of all time on the platform, surpassing Cyberpunk 2077.
  • It reached the second-highest concurrent player count for any game on Steam, behind only PUBG.
  • In total, the game reached a total of three million concurrent players across PC and PlayStation 5.
  • According to Niko Partners, Black Myth: Wukong was the most-watched game on major Chinese streaming platforms like Huya, DouYu, and Bilibili on its release day.
  • This also led to a doubling of Sony’s PlayStation 5 sales in China compared to the same period the previous year.

When Will Black Myth: Wukong Be Available on Xbox?

While the game is currently available on PC and PlayStation 5, Xbox fans will have to wait a bit longer.

The developers at Game Science have stated that they are “optimizing” the Xbox Series X|S version to meet their “quality standards”. They aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users and will announce the release date once it meets their quality criteria.

What’s Next for Black Myth: Wukong?

As Black Myth: Wukong enters its first weekend, player numbers are expected to grow even further. The game remains the top-selling title on Steam, and its popularity shows no signs of waning.

The game has been breaking its own concurrent player records day after day. On the first day, it recorded 2.22 million players; on the second day, it reached 2.35 million; on the third day, it hit 2.41 million; and by the fourth day, it stood at 2.3 million, as per the SteamDB data.

These numbers are impressive but still fall short by 1 million to break the record set by PUBG six years ago. Could we see Black Myth: Wukong surpass that record soon? Share your thoughts below!
