Since its release in August 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 has captivated players with its rich storytelling and deep RPG mechanics. The game, developed by Larian Studios, has also fostered an incredibly active modding community, which has now reached a monumental milestone of 100 million mod downloads, as announced by the developer.

The surge in modding activity can be traced back to September 2024, when Patch 7 introduced an official in-game mod manager on PC. Later, in November, the feature was extended to Xbox and PS5, making mod installation seamless across platforms. This tool allows players to search for mods, enable or disable them easily, and sync with friends in multiplayer sessions. Its ease of use contributed to its explosive popularity, with over 1 million mods downloaded within 24 hours of its launch.

To support the growing interest in mods, Larian Studios has provided resources such as tutorials on their YouTube channel, guiding players on modding best practices and ensuring compatibility across platforms.

Even without mods, Baldur’s Gate 3 remains a juggernaut in the RPG world. The game has sold over 15 million copies by March 2024. According to SteamDB, the game consistently attracts 60,000–100,000 players daily on Steam, with additional players on Xbox, PS5, and GOG. Its replayability and roleplaying depth have kept fans invested for over a year.

Larian is now preparing for the eighth and final post-launch patch of the game, which promises exciting additions such as new subclasses and cross-play functionality. Afterward, the studio will shift its focus away from Baldur’s Gate 3 concentrate on its next major project. Previously the studio revealed that it had two games in development, both based on its own IPs, and it recently confirmed that the majority of the team’s “full attention” is now focused on crafting its next title.
