BAFTA’s 2024 Breakthrough Cohort Includes 9 Gaming Talent Across the UK, US, and India

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has unveiled its 2024 Breakthrough cohort, highlighting emerging talent across games, television, and film in the UK, US, and India. This initiative, supported by Netflix, is designed to nurture professionals at pivotal moments in their careers by providing year-round guidance and development opportunities.

BAFTA describes the Breakthrough programme as a platform to “accelerate extraordinary people working in games, TV, and film who are on the cusp or in the midst of a breakthrough.” For its 11th year, the initiative continues its tradition of recognizing and supporting creatives poised to make a significant impact in their respective fields.

This year’s cohort includes 43 individuals carefully selected by five specialist sub-committees composed of representatives from BAFTA, Netflix, and the broader creative industries. Among them are 9 talents from the gaming sector, showcasing the growing influence and innovation in the industry.

  • Fred Hoffman – Art Director – Paper Trail
  • Jennifer English – Performer – Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Sophie Knowles – Lead Artist – Viewfinder

BAFTA Breakthrough: US

  • Elaine Gómez – Creative Director – Blink Land
  • Karrie Shirou Shao – Game Writer/Lead Designer – Pacific Drive
  • Nicole He – Creative Director – The Crush House

BAFTA Breakthrough: India

  • Abhinav Chokhavatia – Game Producer – Down and Out
  • Neeraj Kumar – Producer/Lead Developer – Artifice: War Tactics

BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip emphasized the importance of the program, stating, “BAFTA Breakthrough spotlights a host of emerging and talented ‘must-watch’ creative practitioners working across film, games, and television. This year we have an amazing roster of casting directors, producers, writers, performers, lead artists, cinematographers, lead developers, and more. We urge the industry to take note.”
