Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming action RPG, Avowed, has already reached a major sales milestone ahead of its official release. The game, set in the fantasy world of Eora and acting as a spinoff to Pillars of Eternity, has climbed to the top of Steam’s Global Top Sellers list by revenue. This achievement places it ahead of notable upcoming and recent releases like Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and Monster Hunter Wilds.
The news was first shared by Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg, who posted a screenshot of Steam’s Top Sellers list, confirming Avowed had secured the number one spot.

However, as of this writing, CS2 has reclaimed the top position, followed by Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Monster Hunter Wilds, Civilization VII, and Marvel Rivals, with Avowed holding steady at number 6. Despite fluctuations, Avowed’s strong performance indicates significant early interest from PC players.
Player Interest and Early Access Impact
With its early access launch, Avowed has already attracted a considerable number of players. According to data from SteamDB, the game saw a peak of 9,270 concurrent players at the start of early access, which has now risen to around 12,811. While this may not seem like a massive figure, it is important to note that the Steam Top Sellers ranking is based on revenue, not just copies sold. The Avowed Premium Edition, priced at $89.99, likely contributed significantly to its high placement.
Furthermore, Avowed is set for a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, which means many players may opt to play it through the subscription service rather than purchasing a standalone copy. However, some Game Pass subscribers have chosen to pay an additional $24.99 for the Premium Edition upgrade, granting them early access to the game before its official launch on February 18, 2025.

Several factors contribute to the game’s strong pre-release sales. Obsidian Entertainment has a stellar reputation in the RPG genre, having developed beloved titles such as Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity. The studio’s history of deep storytelling and engaging gameplay mechanics has cultivated a loyal fanbase eager to experience its latest project.
Additionally, Avowed offers a flexible RPG system with a semi-open world, allowing players to customize their character builds and explore hidden secrets. This level of player freedom, combined with Obsidian’s signature narrative depth, has drawn interest from RPG enthusiasts.
