The global version of the mobile game Atelier Resleriana will shut down on March 28, 2025, just 14 months after its launch. Koei Tecmo, the game’s publisher, announced this decision shortly after the game’s first anniversary in global markets.
According to data from AppMagic, the game has generated $57.7 million in total revenue, with an overwhelming 90% ($52.5 million) coming from Japanese players. This stark difference in regional performance explains why the Japanese version will continue operating while the global version closes.
The game’s revenue also shows a sharp decline in recent months. Since reaching its peak of $13.8 million in October 2023, earnings have dropped significantly. By July 2024, worldwide revenue fell to just $2 million, representing an 85% drop from its highest point.
Taiwan and the United States, the next largest markets after Japan, only generated about $1.7 million and $1.4 million respectively. Neither market has managed to exceed $100,000 in monthly revenue since July 2024, despite regular updates and new character releases.
The Atelier Resleriana team stated they could no longer maintain the game “at a satisfactory standard for our players.” As of January 27, 2025, the game has stopped selling in-game purchases, though players can continue using their existing Lodestar Gems until the final shutdown.
For remaining players, the developers have planned several farewell events, including:
- The second phase of Main Story Chapter 18
- Special closing events leading up to March 28
- Final opportunities to experience the game’s content
“To all our players who have been with us on this adventure, we sincerely thank you for your support,” the development team said in their announcement. “Although service will end on March 28th, we have some events lined up for you to enjoy until the very end.”
