Ubisoft fans may have an exciting year ahead as the company is reportedly planning to develop a new DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. According to sources, this expansion is being made possible with funding from Saudi Arabia’s Savvy Games Group.
The news, first reported by French publication Les Echos and shared by renowned Assassin’s Creed leaker “j0nathan,” suggests Ubisoft’s president Yves Guillemot recently visited Saudi Arabia and approved the DLC’s development. While Ubisoft had not previously shown interest in adding DLC to Mirage, this collaboration marks a shift in strategy.
Initially launched in October 2023, Assassin’s Creed Mirage was designed as a standalone game, even though it began as a planned expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Since its release, the game has not received any post-launch content, making this potential DLC first ever. However, fans should temper their expectations as no official confirmation has come from Ubisoft yet.
Interestingly, this rumor surfaces just two months before the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set to launch on March 20, 2025. The timeline has raised some eyebrows, as Ubisoft’s focus typically shifts to new installments. However, past examples, like the crossover content for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey released three years after its debut, show that post-launch support is possible even after new titles are introduced.
In related news, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has also generated significant buzz. This upcoming installment faced early criticism, with some accusing it of being overly “woke” due to its choice of protagonists and cultural elements. Additionally, Ubisoft was called out for allegedly borrowing artwork from other sources and using unauthorized real-life images in the concept art. Despite these controversies, fans are hopeful the game can restore the franchise’s reputation as pre-orders are going very strong [base price: $70].
Adding to the excitement, Ubisoft has confirmed a DLC for Shadows titled Claws of Awaji, which introduces a new location—the island of Awaji. Players will follow protagonists Yasuke and Naoe as they battle the Sanzoku Ippa in search of hidden treasure. The DLC promises an additional 10 hours of gameplay. Those who pre-order Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive the DLC for free, along with an exclusive side quest called Thrown to the Dogs. For others, the DLC will be available for purchase later in 2025.
Ubisoft’s recent steps to offer free content alongside pre-orders may help rebuild its image, especially as the company has faced criticism for excessive microtransactions and blockchain gaming ventures. As the Shadows release date approaches, fans and industry watchers alike are eager to see how these developments will shape the future of the franchise.
