Remedy Entertainment has announced that Alan Wake 2 has exceeded 2 million units sold worldwide, with the game successfully recouping its “development and marketing costs” by the end of 2024.
According to the company’s latest financial report, the psychological horror sequel began generating royalties in the fourth quarter of 2024, the first time since its digital release in October 2023. The game had previously achieved 1.3 million sales between its launch and March 2024. This makes Alan Wake 2 the Remedy’s fastest-selling title to date.
The €70 million (£58 million) budgeted title has benefited from multiple revenue streams, including two major downloadable content releases. The Night Springs expansion launched in June 2024, followed by The Lake House in October 2024. Additionally, the game received a physical retail release through the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition, which Remedy cites as a contributing factor to its long-term sales performance.
Limited Run Games handled the distribution of a special Collector Edition which shipped to customers in December 2024. This physical release strategy complemented the game’s digital presence across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
Technical support has remained consistent, with Remedy implementing various platform-specific updates throughout 2024. Notable among these was a dedicated update for the PlayStation 5 Pro launch in November, along with multiple quality-of-life improvements across all platforms.
The game’s performance has positively impacted Remedy’s full-year financial results, contributing to the 49.3% year-over-year revenue increase which now reaching €33.9 million.
The sales milestone comes as Remedy continues to expand its portfolio, with the company maintaining ongoing development of several projects including Control 2, the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake, and their first multiplayer title, FBC: Firebreak.
In partnership with Annapurna Interactive, Remedy also plans to expand Alan Wake (along with Control) franchises into film and television.
