Microsoft to adds mobile touch controls to Xbox remote play in beta iOS and Android apps, enabling controller-free game streaming

Xbox

Microsoft recently dropped some touch-tastic news by announcing mobile touch controls for Xbox remote play.

This lets gamers remotely access and play games from their console using just their phone or tablet screens.

Pretty slick stuff! Let’s break it down.

DIRECT Phone Access To Your Console

Previously, Xbox remote play required a Bluetooth controller to replicate that tactile console experience on the go.

But no longer!

Identical to the touch controls from Xbox Cloud Gaming, you can now launch, tap, swipe, and get handsy with games straight from your mobile’s screen.

Touch Tailored For Gaming Glory

Currently, this is only in the Beta test and only available for a few handsets and titles.

But Microsoft will soon expand its custom controls for hundreds of popular titles that feel great on smaller screens.

A few years ago, Microsoft revealed that 20% of Xbox Cloud Gaming users rely on touch controls exclusively, and thus, the company decided to expand it to more titles.

Games like Hades, Minecraft Dungeons, and Yakuza: Like A Dragon have proven big hits with lean-back style.

And with Xbox Cloud Gaming headed to iOS soon, we could see touch controls spread further.

Casual genres like life sims and puzzle games lend themselves perfectly to brief handheld sessions.
